Ask Samuele: March 2026
This month, Dana from Acton asks…
Dear Samuele,
I’m far from being an expert, but I do know how to turn my boiler pressure up.
The thing is, it’s just a pain to keep having to do it.
Why does it seem to lose pressure every few weeks?
Yours sincerely,
Dana
Ciao, Dana. And grazie mille for your question!
If your boiler keeps losing pressure every few weeks, it usually means there’s a small issue somewhere in the heating system. The most common cause is a minor leak in a radiator, valve, or pipe joint.
Sometimes it can also be the pressure relief valve releasing water, or the expansion vessel inside the boiler losing its charge.
It’s fine to top the pressure up occasionally, but if it keeps happening regularly, it’s worth getting it checked. A heating engineer can quickly inspect the system and fix the root cause before it turns into a bigger problem.
In the meantime, keep an eye around radiators and pipe joints for small damp patches or drips – they can sometimes reveal where the pressure is escaping.
Hope that helps.
Samuele
