Meet the team: Spotlight on Sharon

About Sharon

This month, we meet the lovely Sharon, one of the unsung heroes of The Italian Plumber back office team.

Hello Sharon, very nice to meet you. So, what is your job role, and what makes it exciting?
It’s hard to define a job title, but I’m responsible for ensuring all the bookings administration is up to date, and making sure that our customers are happy with the work they’ve received.

It’s exciting because no two days are ever the same, and it’s so nice when you’ve managed to help someone who is particularly vulnerable.

That must keep you very busy. Are there any other duties associated with your role?
Yes, I’m in charge of Health & Safety. I arrange the e-learning courses, make sure all employees follow the rules, and also make sure they sign the H&S policies.

What makes you good at your job?
People tell me I’m a very organised person. I don’t tend to get flustered, and I’m fully committed to making sure our customers get seen on time and get the service they deserve. You need to be able to juggle a few things at once, and I love that kind of busyness.

I suppose just generally having a calm and level head makes this kind of job a lot easier.

What don’t you like about your job?
In general, I love it. But I hate confrontation. If a customer is becoming upset about a situation, I try my hardest to defuse it as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, sometimes it’s unavoidable to disappoint someone if traffic is terrible or a supplier is delaying a part.

And the best bit about your job?
Hearing great client feedback. It’s the best feeling to know that we’ve all worked well as a team and the result has exceeded the customer’s expectations.
I also generally like problem-solving and fitting the best engineer with a particular job.

You sound like someone who cares very much about people.
To do a job like this efficiently, you have to care about the people you work for, as well as the people you work with.

What do you do when you’re not organising things and making sure people are happy?
My whole family enjoys amateur dramatics.
I recently played the parts of a nun and a prospective parent in a play called The Adoption. It’s lots of fun and completely takes you away from the stresses of everyday life. The kids love it, too.

That sounds like a lot of fun and a great family activity. Do you do a lot as a family?
I have two teenage children, so they generally keep me busy.
We go for lots of walks with our beautiful dog – a cockapoo.

I also love pottering around in the garden and taking holidays with my husband.

Who’s your favourite comedian?
I don’t really have a favourite. This probably sounds a bit silly, but we love Gogglebox.
It just makes me laugh out loud.

Sharon, thanks so much for your time today. You are clearly very much part of the Italian Plumber’s beating heart.
Thank you very much. It was a pleasure.

Next month, we meet one of the engineers.
