Ask Samuele: May 2022

This month, Isabel from Chiswick asks…

Dear Samuele,

I’ve heard that the government is bringing in a new grant scheme to help homeowners replace their fossil fuel boilers with a heat pump or biomass boiler.

Will I be eligible, and will I be able to use the grant towards an air source heat pump specifically?

Yours sincerely,

Isabel

Samuele says:

Ciao, Isabel! And grazie mille for your question.

The grant relates to the boiler upgrade scheme and was announced in 2021 to help reduce the cost of more environmentally-friendly heating systems.

There are four separate heat pump systems the grant will cover.
Yes, you will be able to use the grant towards an air pump system. With the other options being; ground, water, and biomass boilers.

With regards to eligibility, the property must have an eligible Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) issued in the last 10 years, and the certificate must have no outstanding recommendations to install loft or cavity wall insulation.

Here is a comprehensive article on the boiler upgrade scheme.

Hope it helps.

Ciao for now.

Samuele
