Italian plumber gas engineer

Meet the team: Spotlight on Enrico

This month, we meet the dashingly-handsome Enrico. He’s one of our valued gas engineers with six years’ service under his belt. We’re very lucky to have him, and our customers think so, too.

Hello Enrico, whereabouts in Italy are you from?
I’m from Puglia, which forms part of the heel in the southern region of Italy.
It’s a very beautiful, picturesque place. I always encourage people to go and visit there.

How long have you been living in the UK?
I’ve been living here for the past eight years, but I’m happy to say that I actually received my British citizenship in October this year.

Congratulations!
Grazie.

What do you like most about living in London?
I adore London’s vibrancy, and the fact that there is always something interesting to do.
At weekends, myself and my partner love nothing more than to go and explore the different museums, or discover a new exhibition. We never get bored… it’s great.

What do you love most about your job as a gas engineer?
It probably sounds like quite a cliché, but I love it when I make a customer happy. I really like to solve problems, so I get particularly excited when I attend one of the more challenging jobs.

What’s the worst part of your job?
When I get called to attend to a boiler that’s so old, it’s impossible to get parts. There really is very little that can be done, and it’s never nice telling someone that they need to get a new boiler. Nobody wants to hear that.

Do you have any hobbies or activities outside of work that you like to do?
I don’t really have any hobbies as such. But, for the first time, I recently completed a half marathon. It was kind of a joke to begin with… I just did it with my girlfriend, but it ignited a passion within me. When I was running, the crowd and the marshals were so supportive; they were shouting “go Enrico” and it really spurred me on.

I’m now a very keen runner and go out most weekends. I also do a lot of swimming during the week. I love the whole experience of keeping fit, so I’m planning on doing a full marathon next year.

If you never had to work again, what would you do with your time?
I love to travel so I would spend my time visiting new places. I’d probably start by going on some safaris, and perhaps a visit to Japan. I like to experience different cultures.

Apart from being a great gas engineer, do you have any other special talents?
No, not really. But I really enjoy solving problems. I suppose that’s one of the reasons why I appreciate my job so much.

Do you have a favourite actor or comedian you enjoy watching?
I do enjoy watching Ben Stiller. He’s really funny, and I especially enjoyed him in Zoolander… he was hilarious.

And finally, do you have any pets?
No, but I used to have a cocker spaniel when I lived in Italy. It was such a beautiful dog.

Enrico, thank you so much for your time today. It’s been a pleasure speaking to you.
Prego. Grazie mille.
