Meet the team: Spotlight on Liam

He’s a family man, a former sports fanatic, and probably the friendliest face you’ll meet on a callout. With 17 years in the trade, Liam brings good vibes, great service and the occasional confused Italian customer (you’ll find out why). Let’s meet Liam.

What do you do at the Italian Plumber?
I’m a plumber, and also deal with the heating side of things, covering everything from leaky taps to full system installs. It’s a hands-on role, and I really enjoy the variety each day brings.

Where are you from?
I’m from Fulham. I still live locally, so I know the area like the back of my hand.

What inspired you to become a plumber?
Honestly, it was my mum. I left secondary school without a clear plan, and she encouraged me to get into something practical. She found a college course and pushed me to give it a go. Best decision ever—thanks, Mum.

When did you realise this was the career for you?
College was okay, but it was mostly theory. It wasn’t until I started my apprenticeship that it all clicked. Getting stuck in, learning on the job, solving real problems—that’s when I realised I genuinely enjoyed it.

If you weren’t a plumber, what other job would you be doing?
Growing up, I was really into sports—football, swimming, table tennis, badminton, even a bit of golf. I think if I’d pursued it, I might’ve ended up doing something in sport, maybe coaching or training. I was always on the move.

Do you have any hobbies?
My hobbies have definitely taken a back seat—I’ve got two kids, so most of my time outside work revolves around them! My daughter is 11 and my son is 6. They keep me on my toes, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

If you won a huge amount on the lottery, what would you spend it on?
First thing’s first—I’d take a proper holiday. Somewhere tropical like the Maldives or Mauritius, just to unwind. After that, I’d probably retire and take some time to figure out what I really want to do—maybe more travel, maybe something sporty, who knows?

If I was to ask your friends what you are like, what would they say?
They’d probably say I’m happy, positive, and full of energy. I like to bring good vibes wherever I go, whether it’s with mates or customers.

What makes you good at your job?
I think it comes down to personality. I’m patient, I enjoy working with people, and I genuinely like helping customers solve problems. When people feel looked after, it makes all the difference.

Have you had any funny or unusual experiences on the job?
Quite a few! Because I drive the Italian Plumber van, I often get random Italians coming up to me and speaking in full Italian—assuming I’ll understand. One guy even tried to skip a queue by chatting to me in Italian. I just smiled and nodded.

Who’s your favourite comedian?
I’ve got a few—Eddie Murphy, Jim Carrey, and Peter Kay are all up there. I love watching comedy shows, too… most nights I fall asleep listening to Family Guy.

What were you doing before you became a plumber?
Plumbing’s actually been my only job—I’ve been doing it for 17 years now. It’s all I’ve ever known, and I still love it.

If you could get on a plane right now, where would you go and who would you go with?
I’d jet off somewhere sunny and relaxing with my family—maybe a beach holiday where we can all just switch off and enjoy some time together.

Liam, it’s been a pleasure speaking with you today and learning more about you.
You’re welcome. I’ve enjoyed it!
