Wendi the office manager

Meet the team: Spotlight on Wendi

About Wendi

She’s busy, organised, and totally committed to making things run smoothly. But don’t go near her cat. This month, we meet the friendly and energetic Wendi.

Hello Wendi, lovely to meet you. What is your job role at The Italian Plumber?
Lovely to meet you, too.
I actually have two main roles: Office Manager and Customer Service Manager.

You must be very busy. How long have you been working there?
Yes, very busy. I was previously working as a property manager for various estate agents, and had been using Samuele’s services for 3 – 4 years. He then made me an offer I couldn’t refuse, so I joined the team in 2018.

What does a typical day entail for you?
I start the day by reading the emails that have come in from the night before and answering the phone.

They cover everything from general enquiries to advertising to project enquiries.
I then make sure that all the engineers are in and ready to go. This also means
that I have to ensure that parts have arrived with them, to enable them to complete various jobs.

In a nutshell, I make sure that everyone is ready for the day ahead, and ensure that
they keep on schedule. If there are any delays I contact the customers and keep
them fully abreast of the situation.

You mentioned ‘project’ enquiries. What exactly are they?
Often people who are interested in buying a property contact us to carry out a pre-inspection of the plumbing and heating. It’s a great way for them to make sure they avoid any nasty surprises. It can also give them some very useful bargaining power.

What do you love most about your job?
My job is all about helping people. Helping our customers, the engineers and our office staff, it is an ongoing learning experience. So that’s what I love. I especially love helping customers who are in crisis – no heating or a particularly complex plumbing issue. I have a lot of job satisfaction, and it keeps my mind busy because I’m always looking for ways to
efficiently solve a problem and have us all working to a high quality of service within the company.

Do you have any hobbies?
Yes, I love to cook… especially world cuisine.

That sounds interesting, what kinds of thing are you cooking at the moment?
I had a Sushi phase and that was very popular with my friends but very expensive for me!

If you never had to work again, what would you do?
I lived abroad for many years, including Hong Kong, Mauritius, and France, so I do love to travel. I would spend some time doing that and once I’d seen most of the places I wanted to visit, I’d start a children’s charity.

Do you have any pets?
Yes, I kind of unintentionally inherited it.
Samuele asked me to look after his cat whilst in the middle of a move – that was three years ago. It was only meant to be temporary.

You must be very fond of it though… what’s its name?
Micio. I also call him the ‘Mafia’ cat. Fond of him? I wouldn’t go that far. He’s an absolute horror. Everyone in my area knows him, they also know to keep away. You can’t touch him, he’ll bite you. But he’s one of those that will lead you into a false sense of security.

Wendi, thanks so much for telling us about your work life and your naughty cat. Bye for now.
It’s been a pleasure. Thank you.
