How does a £5,000 grant towards a low carbon heating system sound?

Here’s the lowdown.

I’m pleased to announce that The Italian Plumber has recently been awarded MCS certification, and are fully authorised to carry out air source heat pump installations. This includes being able to advise you on whether you would be eligible for a grant.

Currently, we are only able to carry out installations in houses.

What is it, and who’s providing the grant?
It’s a government initiative run by Ofgem that was started back in May 2021.
The aim is to encourage property owners to replace their gas boiler with a low carbon heating system through a scheme called the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). The heating systems comprise of three different kinds of heat pumps, or another kind called a biomass boiler.

Who is the scheme open to?
The scheme is open to domestic and small non-domestic properties in England and Wales, and will be running until 2025.

What kind of system can The Italian Plumber install for me and how much is the grant?
For the time being, we will only be installing air source heat pumps.
You could receive up to £5,000 off the cost of installation.

Will I be eligible?
You might be if you live in England or Wales, and own your own property. This could be domestic or a small non-domestic property. You basically have to apply for a voucher.

How do I apply for a voucher?
The Italian Plumber will provide you with a formal quotation, and then we will apply for a voucher from the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem), who are managing the scheme.

Where can I learn more about the scheme?
By going directly to the Ofgem website
