Ask Samuele: March 2021
This month, Christopher from Teddington asks…
Dear Samuele,
When I run my taps, the pipes begin to make the most dreadful whooshing noise throughout the whole of my house. It’s so annoying.
Can you tell me what’s causing it, and how I can stop it?
Yours sincerely,
Christopher
Samuele says:
Ciao, Christopher! And grazie mille for your question.
We get booked to deal with this problem a lot.
The noise usually occurs because the water pressure is too high, and the pipes are too small and not properly insulated.
The solution is simple.
You need a flow restrictor (pressure-reducing valve) attached to your main water supply.
It’s a job that usually takes around two hours to complete.
Hope that helps.
Ciao for now,
Samuele
