Chiswick sits right next door to our base in Acton, so our gas engineers in Chiswick know the W4 streets well. We service and repair boilers, track down central heating faults, connect gas hobs, cookers and range cookers, and install and check gas fires. That covers the big Victorian semis off Chiswick High Road, the cottages of the Glebe Estate, the family houses of Grove Park and the flats near Turnham Green. Before any gas work starts, your engineer shows you a Gas Safe ID card. If the fault turns out to be more than a simple repair, we tell you what we found in plain words and agree the cost with you first. We always look for the most reliable and cost effective fix before anyone mentions a new boiler.
A lot of W4 homes have had loft conversions, side returns and kitchen extensions, and the gas pipework has been extended each time. So whether you have called a heating engineer about a radiator that will not warm up or booked a gas hob fitting for a new kitchen, we look at the whole run, the ventilation and the flue as well. When we fit or test a gas appliance, you are left with the right certificate for it, and the old paperwork is checked too.
We also cover the whole of West London, including Richmond, Shepherds Bush, Hammersmith, Chiswick, Ealing, Barnes, Notting Hill, Kensington, Fulham and Putney. Find our gas engineers in Chiswick on Google Maps.
Many Chiswick households first heard of us from a neighbour on the same road, or from friends across the High Road in Bedford Park. These reviews come from customers after the engineer has packed up and gone.

Boilers
In Chiswick we work on a wide spread of boilers. Larger houses around Grove Park and Turnham Green often run a system boiler with a big hot water cylinder for two or three bathrooms, while the smaller Glebe Estate cottages usually have a wall-hung combi tucked into the kitchen. Now and then we still meet an older floor-standing boiler in a Bedford Park house. We find the fault, show you the worn part and price the repair before going ahead. If a replacement is the only sensible option, we offer a no-obligation boiler survey and a separate quote.
Central heating
Big W4 houses have long pipe runs and plenty of radiators, so a weak pump or years of sludge shows up quickly as cold rooms at the top of the house. We test the system end to end, from boiler and pump to valves and radiators, and where sludge is the problem a power flush can bring the heating back to full strength.

Hobs and cookers

Chiswick kitchens are often rebuilt into open-plan rooms at the back of the house, and a range cooker is a popular choice. We connect gas hobs, cookers and range cookers, disconnect the old appliance, carry out two gas tests and check the ventilation, then leave you a gas safety certificate for the new installation in your Chiswick kitchen.
Whether you have bought a gas cooker, range cooker, oven or hob, we connect it safely and disconnect your old one on the same visit. Once it is fitted and tested, you get a gas safety certificate for the installation.

Plan ahead
Chiswick has some of the most varied housing in West London, and that shapes every gas job. Bedford Park, built from the 1870s as one of the first garden suburbs, is full of red brick Queen Anne style houses with tall chimneys, original fireplaces and gas supplies that have been altered many times over the decades. The Glebe Estate off Chiswick High Road is a conservation area of small Victorian terraced cottages, where the boiler often shares a narrow kitchen with the cooker and the flue has very little room to go anywhere. Grove Park, close to Chiswick station, has large Victorian and Edwardian villas, a good number now split into flats with separate boilers on each floor. Near Gunnersbury, interwar semis and later blocks of flats sit alongside the park and the station. Down by the river, the old cottages and houses at Strand on the Green and along Chiswick Mall need extra thought, because damp air and listed walls limit where a flue can run.
Because the houses are so different, we ask a few questions when you get in touch. A gas fire in a Bedford Park front room, a cramped combi in a Glebe Estate kitchen and a cylinder system in a Grove Park villa all need different parts and different checks. Telling us which one you have helps the engineer bring what is needed. Many of our W4 customers have stayed with us for ten years or more, so we often already know the house. If not, we keep a record of what we find so the next visit is quicker.

Straight answers to the questions Chiswick customers ask most about gas work.
Still not sure?
Ask an engineerYes. Fitting or connecting a gas hob or cooker is gas work, so it must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Pulling your own cooker out on its bayonet to clean behind it is fine, but a new or different appliance is an installation. We connect it, test the gas before and after, and give you a certificate. Many Chiswick kitchens are being moved into rear extensions, so the gas supply has to be carried further across the house. We check that new run and the room ventilation before the hob goes in.
Not always. Anyone can call themselves a plumber, but only a Gas Safe registered engineer can legally work on gas appliances such as boilers, hobs and fires. Our team covers both, so one visit can sort out the gas side and the water side of your heating.
Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 straight away, open windows and doors, and turn the gas off at the meter if you can. Do not use switches or flames. They make the supply safe, but repairs to pipes and appliances after the meter are up to you, so call us next to trace and fix the fault.
Our gas, boiler and heating engineers charge £130 +VAT an hour, Monday to Friday, 08.00 to 17.00, with a one hour minimum and 15 minute periods after that. Parts are charged at trade price plus 25%, and a landlord gas safety record is £130 +VAT for up to two appliances. Getting to a Chiswick address costs you nothing extra. The one local addition is parking, since most W4 streets are in Hounslow Council zones, and we add that bay charge at cost.
Yes. We disconnect the old appliance, check the position and connection for the new one, then fit it and test it, all in one visit. If you want the old cooker taken away, we can do that too for a set disposal charge.
Landlords must have every gas appliance checked each year and give tenants a copy of the record within 28 days. The check can be done up to two months early and keep the same renewal date. Homeowners are not legally required to have one, but an annual service is strongly advised. W4 has plenty of rented homes, from flats carved out of Grove Park villas to lets near Turnham Green and Gunnersbury, and landlords there can book several properties on one round of checks.
Repair first, unless there is a clear reason not to. We look at the age of the boiler, whether parts are still made and how often it has broken down, then price the repair. If replacement makes more sense, we show you why and quote it separately, with no obligation.
Call us. Repairs carry a three month written guarantee and new installations twelve months. We come back, check the work and put right anything the guarantee covers.
Ask to see their Gas Safe ID card and check both sides. The front shows their photo and licence number, and the back lists the gas work they are qualified for, such as cookers or boilers. You can also check the business on the Gas Safe Register online. Our engineers show their card on every visit.
